Modern dance classes: Where jazz meets contemporary style
Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style rooted in musical theatre, which originated in America. It is often seen in musical productions and is known for its dynamic theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Modern Theatre also incorporates jazz, lyrical and contemporary dance styles into its examination syllabus. Modern Theatre Dance defies a single permanent definition. This is largely due to its ability to adapt, develop and evolve with the changing fashion in dance.

The ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) Modern Dance syllabus offers a structured yet expressive approach to modern theatre dance, combining elements of jazz, contemporary, and theatrical movement.

These classes are perfect for young dancers (boys and girls) aged 4 and above who love to move, express themselves, and explore new styles.
What to wear
What to wear
Students should wear a leotard or unitard with footless tights. Barefoot is recommended. Hair must be neatly tied back and off the face. Please avoid excessive jewelry.

We run Modern Dance Classes each week during the school term.
NOTE: The dance studio closes on Friday 3 July and reopens on Monday 20 July.
